The Southwest Car Wash Association’s Annual Convention and Car Wash Expo for 2022 took place at the Fort Worth Convention Center in Fort Worth, TX Sunday February 27 through Tuesday, March 1. This event once again proved worthy of its reputation as the first big car wash show of the year. Turnout exceeded 2,200. An impressive number, all the more so as the SCWA 2022 show was bookended by two The Car Wash Show presentations: one in November 2021 and another coming up in May 2022.
The CEO Forum, the opening session on Sunday, featured Steven Foster of “Full-Throttle Leadership” fame. An award-winning speaker, writer, consultant, and entrepreneur, he advocates for giving back to the communities where we live, work, and meet.
During the general session on Monday morning, the association bestowed its highest honor, the Lifetime Achievement Award, on Jerry Miller, a past president of the Southwest Car Wash Association. With a background in the construction business, Miller and his partners built their first wash in 1987. Miller credits his association with other SCWA board members as having the biggest influence on his career. This afforded him not only the opportunity to work for the association, but also to learn from operators across the region. He notes particularly learning about the express-exterior model from Ben Alford, which entailed a lower price car wash in addition to free vacuums.
Former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Newt Gingrich was the keynote speaker for the event. A Fox News contributor, podcast host (Newt’s World), and syndicated columnist, he is the author of 41 books, including 18 fiction and nonfiction New York Times best sellers. His latest books include Beyond Biden and Shakedown. This highly anticipated presentation did not disappoint.
