The Southwest Car Wash Association’s Annual Convention and Car Wash Expo for 2017 took place in Arlington, TX Sunday, February 26 through Tuesday, February 28.
This show gets bigger and better every year. Last year a foyer area was enlisted to accommodate the exhibitor overflow. That arrangement proved inadequate this year, obliging organizers to add an additional exhibit hall to hold the expanding pool of exhibitors.
The association bestowed its highest honor, the Lifetime Achievement Award on two recipients during the General Session on Monday morning:
• Jim Coleman, founder of Jim Coleman Co., now Coleman Hanna Systems
• John Jurkens (posthumously), founder of Octopus Car Wash
The awards ceremony was followed by the keynote address by the Emmy-Award winning journalist John Stossel, former ABC News correspondent and co-anchor of the newsmagazine program 20/20, and current host and commentator on Fox Business Network. In his presentation, Stossel tracked his conversion from a business-bashing consumer reporter to a free-market disciple. This was so well received that the audience gave him a pass on his acknowledgement that, though he owned a car, he never washed the exterior.
On Monday, the Fast Track Round Tables, offering 15-minute discussions on a variety of subjects, were well attended. During the Car Wash Academy on Tuesday morning, nine educational sessions were presented across three time slots. In addition, the International Detailing Association presented a morning of detailing-focused education.
The SCWA 2018 Convention & Expo is scheduled for February 25-27 in Arlington, TX. For further information, visit www.swcarwash.org or call the Southwest Car Wash Association at (800) 440-0644.
