Messe Frankfurt is one of the world’s leading tradeshow organizers with more than 100 events to its credit annually. The company’s Automechanika show is making its U.S. debut at McCormick Place West in Chicago, IL April 24-26, 2015. This is just the latest iteration of the company’s automotive-aftermarket-focused shows that it presents globally. Cities that host Automechanika events include Buenos Aires, New Delhi, St. Petersburg, Madrid, Kuala Lumpur, Istanbul, Johannesburg, Kiev, Dubai, Mexico City, Moscow, and, of course, the original Frankfurt.

Automechanika is geared toward automotive service and repair businesses, collision repair shops, parts suppliers, and other automotive aftermarket concerns. This emphasis can clearly be seen in the product group categories:
• Parts and Components
• Accessories and Tuning
• Repair and Maintenance
• IT and Management
• Service Station and Car Wash
• Electronics and Systems

In Chicago, as in Frankfurt, “Car Wash” is grouped with “Service Station,” the latter perhaps better understood in the United States as “Gas Station.” This group includes gas station planning, construction, equipment, and tank systems; oil and lubricant systems, equipment, consumables, and recycling; and car wash tunnels, equipment, cleaning products, and detailing products and accessories.

The organizers expect more than 8,500 attendees to roam the approximately 400 exhibiting companies occupying roughly 225,000 square feet of floor space. Understandably, with the focus being on service and repair, car washing and detailing occupy but a slither of the exhibit space. From the overall exhibitor information, we have selected and listed below those exhibitors most likely to be of interest to car washers and detailers.

There is a vast array of educational opportunities available — 122 seminars over the course of three days for which separate registration is required. But, as with exhibitors, the emphasis is squarely on service and repair. In fact, there is not a single car wash or detailing seminar on offer. Granted, this is Automechanika’s first foray into the U.S. market and its offerings with regard to car washing may well expand in the future as it has in Frankfurt where, in September last year, an extensive car wash educational program was presented. We have again selected a handful of seminars that could be of general interest to car wash business owners and have listed them in the much-abbreviated schedule of selected events below. There are several additional educational presentations that could be of interest, particularly to fast-lube operators.
